I can sing Yankee Doodle as much as I please,

But ev'ryone seems to be wise.

As to who I am what I am, ev'ryone sees;

So perfectly plain in my eyes.

You can tell that me father and mother,

They were either from Dublin or Cork;

That my name is Mac something or other,

There are hundreds like me in New York.

Chorus:

You can tell, by the touch of the brogue,

you can tell, by the wink of the rogue,

you can tell all the while,

By the style, by the smile;

You can tell, by the wit of the talk,

you can tell, by the swing of the walk,

You can tell very well, though I'm tryin' to be swell,

that I'm Irish.

I can put on my airs, just as much as I please,

Me beautiful jewels and clothes.

But I'm Irish, I'm Irish,

Yes, ev'ryone sees,

The cute little turn of me nose.

When I go to a hightoned reception,

Oh, I try to be fancy and fine;

But there's really no chance for deception,

For they know I'm a real Maggie Cline.
